What areas are there of Brighton and Hove for students?

Brighton and Hove are great locations on the seafront and when you are in the middle of it, it is literally a minutes’ walk from anywhere. There are loads of different places to go such as Kemptown, Central Hove and obviously Central Brighton area. There is fantastic local transport links with various bus stops throughout the town and a train station.

What areas are there and what do they provide?

The lanes/North Laine.

This area is great for shopping, eating, and drinking. It has two sets of windy lanes full of shops, bars, and restaurants to suit all tastes. There is so much culture in the Lane and North Laine area with unusual shops and fantastic entertainment. You will find some of the best bars, shops and restaurants residing in these two iconic shopping areas. They represent the heart of Brighton life. Whether you are looking for retro and kitch or independent and designer boutiques then you will find everything in this area. Make sure you get a chance to explore the area at a leisurely pace which is just down from the train station before you go onto your course work.

Moulsecoomb.

The benefit of living in Moulsecoomb is it is very close to university. Unfortunately, it is not the greatest of areas when it comes to entertainment although the university are building these now onsite. It is not the most expensive area in the city so you can spend your money on getting the bus to get yourself into central town. However, you will find some great accommodation in this area and it literally is a stone’s throw from the universities.

Elm Grove.

This is probably a normal average student area in the United Kingdom. The ratio from students to the locals is about 1:4. The houses are of a good nature. However, you pay for the area itself. There are of course the enormous two hills that you are going to need to deal with, so it is great for exercise. It is close to enough bars and clubs for social life and far enough away from everything else for you to have peace and quiet for working. It can be a great place to stay and the atmosphere is great.

Brighton City Centre.

This is the most expensive part of Brighton, but you get the sea, the clubs, and shops right on your doorstep. It is a great place to live if you can afford. You will find other properties to be cheaper, but it depends on whether you want to be in the centre of Brighton or not. There are not many houses in this area so if you do like something, we suggest you take it straight away. They often go first. There are plenty of bars, clubs, and shops together with takeaways for anything you want. However, you might find it too much on your doorstep.

London Road / Upper Lewes Road.

One of the main areas of students to live in with its own shops and bars and a healthy number of students. Also, not too far from the city centre. Houses are well sized but again you pay for the area. You can use the train or bus into university and some streets have free parking although this is consistently changing. There are enough pubs on the London Road and there are some lovely cafes and shops.

Kemptown.

It is well known for being the LGBT community. However, there is so much more to it than just people’s stereotypes. It can be quite posh, it can be expensive, but it is very bohemian. It is home to Brighton’s gay village, and it can be difficult to get to university from here, but you can always go to the bus stops to the centre. You do have the beach right on your doorstep and it is one of the closest places to live near the city centre without having the hustle and bustle of it. There are a fantastic number of shops, restaurants, and everything you need.

Hove.

If you want peace and quiet and being close to the beach but also fantastic shops and takeaways, then Hove is your place to go. There are quite a few student houses that have now situated in Hove and it is becoming more popular. The prices can be slightly more expensive, but you are at the posher end of the accommodation areas. The restaurants are second to none and Hove seafront is one of the nicest places to be.

There are so many other areas within Brighton and Hove that you need to really go on a bus, have a tour, go on a train, and have a look round. There is so many things to do and so many places to go. Have a look round and enjoy yourself!

Professional communication with tenant although entirely impersonal. There was a bigger disconnect in their communication with the landlord in most cases, which seemed to be either slow or non-existent (discovered after contacting the landlord directly).Property was full of spider webs on day 1 despite apparently being professionally cleaned. Took a day off of work to clean it on move out day, leaving it cleaner than when it received but still had to pay part of the deposit for professional cleaning.It has been a while since I have rented, but I'll avoid letting agencies completely now if this is anything close to the average renting experience.
